OPD: Beware of 'Green Dot' computer virus scam

This is a very common scan and one that is reported on quite often. eGurus recommends that if you recieve this phone call, hang up immediately. Don't engage in conversation...if you must, just say you don't have a computer. These scam artists are persistent and its not uncommon for them to call multiple times. Again, hang up. Microsoft or Windows will never phone you directly.

The viewers are advised that the computer has been locked up and that they must pay $300 to $400 in fines using of a Green Dot Reloadable Prepaid card. Once the fine is paid, however, the computer is still locked and unusable. Meanwhile, the money has ...
